ISPA welcomes broadband Code of Practice

ISPA welcomes broadband Code of Practice

December 9, 2016

The Internet Services Providers’ Association (ISPA) has welcomed a new Code of Practice on Broadband Speeds that was introduced last week.

The Code of Practice – put together by Ofcom in association with the ISPA – is designed to ensure that broadband providers communicate accurate data to customers on the broadband speeds they offer.

It also notes that customers need better information about the factors that influence broadband speed that are beyond the control of internet service providers (ISPs).

These factors include the distance a customer lives from the telephone exchange, the condition of the customers phone line, the quality of wiring within the customer’s house, the type of modem or router used, computer speed, and the time of day that the internet is accessed.

ISPA will continue to work with Ofcom to ensure that the code is implemented correctly by ISPs.

ISPA Secretary General Nicholas Lansman said the group is ‘looking forward’ to continuing its work with Ofcom on this ‘imporant issue’.

Founded in 1995, the ISPA is a trade association representing UK-based ISPs.
